This tour of
towns should be realized! In the morning you start to the medieval
town Albi. The town on the river Tarn (right photo) receives the visitor
with its unique huge en gothic cathedral made from reddish stone and
with lavish wall-painting inside. Further sights are the archiepiscopal
palace, the old bridge of the Tarn and many half-timbered houses.
After this "appetite-stimulant"
follows the warm up behind Mazamet on an about 40 km twisting mountaindistance
through the mountains of Noir.
Then you arrive
at the Cité of Carcassonne (left photo). Surrounded by the "New
city" the completely preserved and greatest medieval fortified
town of Europe is situated on a hill. The UNESCO had classified it as
a heritage of world culture. A huge double wall of the fortress with
42 towers surrounds the still today inhabited city with many narrow
streets, beautiful houses, the castle and the gothic cathedral. The
observation of the "Cité" is made on foot and you should
include approximately 3 h in your plans. And you should also enjoy a
soft drink on the lovely and shady place under the plane-trees.
